Marijuana in colorado
The use and possession of small amounts of marijuana for specific medical purposes has been legal in Colorado since 2000, but on January 1, 2014, people in Colorado were able to legally purchase marijuana for recreation. Long lines formed in the driving snow as people snaked around dispensaries waiting for their turn to buy flower and edibles (food and drink products infused with cannabis—with active THC) on opening day. The cultivation of hemp also became legal in 2014 and farmers planted and harvested acres of hemp (a crew of volunteers and family harvested, by hand, the first major [known] hemp crop in the United States in over 50 years in October 2013 and others followed).
Much of this marijuana is grown in large warehouses—essentially huge high-tech indoor farms complete with different rooms optimized for various stages of the plant’s life.
